Frequently asked questions

Stainless steel is the only option for a product that has to withstand the high temperatures and outdoor conditions of our climate.

Interior: Ordinary steels deteriorate at high temperatures, from around 400 degrees. The material burns and particles fall off. Apart from the progressive weakening of the material, this also poses a hygiene problem, especially when it comes to handling food.

Stainless steel can withstand temperatures of over 800 degrees. At such temperatures, the material may change color but retain its strength and remain smooth. What’s more, it’s easy to clean. There’s a good reason why stainless steel is used in a variety of applications in professional kitchens.

Exterior: Iron coated with wet paint will rust and is therefore very sensitive to maintenance.

The exterior of the Braaimaster is made of stainless steel or CORTEN steel. Powder-coated stainless steel remains beautiful, even over the long term. In the event of damage, this is no problem thanks to the base coat. The material will not rust. Likewise, CORTEN steel is totally maintenance-free and highly suited to our climate.

CORTEN steel, often referred to as weathering steel, is totally maintenance-free. An oxide layer is formed to protect the underlying material. CORTEN steel gives outdoor products a very natural look. The Braaimaster in CORTEN is supplied unfinished and will acquire a beautiful patina over time.

The Braaimaster is entirely designed with a double-wall structure, which prevents the outside from becoming too hot. This makes the device safe to use, and also allows it to be installed under cover.

There are several ways to install the Braaimaster in your conservatory. The most common methods are :

INDEPENDENT MODEL Easy to install in an existing or new veranda or garden shed. Installation with double-walled materials passing through the veranda roof. In this case, the Braaimaster is supplied with an adapter for connection to double-walled flues.

BUILT-IN MODEL To be integrated into a stone building. You can opt for beautiful facing brick, or concrete blocks covered with a layer of white plaster or natural stone strips.

The Braaimaster can be used with charcoal and wood. In general, the harder the wood, the better. Species such as oak or ash are suitable, but African woods such as Sekelbos and Kameeldoring offer the best results.

Potjies and Dutch Ovens are made of cast iron, a porous material that ensures excellent heat conduction, ideal for cooking over an open fire. After use, clean them carefully without using soap, grease them regularly with (sunflower) oil and keep them dry. Instructions for initial use and maintenance are supplied with the product and can also be requested separately. Over time, these utensils develop a protective coating that enhances them, making a good cast-iron pan an investment for life.
